Basque songs and other pieces accompanied by a guitar are a rather surprising occurrence. Usually the instruments played in the Basque country are the Tchistu (a small flute) and the tamborine, while choruses sing a capella. But at home, in the evening, in front of the hearth, a Basque singer enjoys playing the guitar as he performs. That is probably the reason why this scene is so often represented in libraries and painting exhibitions.
